Hire a Hero is a registered charity that supports service leavers and veterans to make the transition from serving to civilian life. Hire a Hero was established in 2011.
Hire a Hero’s core work is to provide transition support through trained volunteers working as guides and mentors to service leavers and mentors; they provide career coaching; develop our service leavers and veterans employability skills; as well as breaking down the barriers to employment through housing and welfare help and advice.
Thanks to our transition support work, users have been found to be six times more likely to find employment than those who choose not to access the service, seeing at least 150 clients go in to work since March 2013.
In early 2015 the work of Hire a Hero was recognised through the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. The Silver Award – the highest available in Wales, where the charity is based – acknowledges the charity’s exemplary work supporting the employment of ex-armed forces personnel.
Hire a Hero is able to carry out it’s work thanks to a network of like-minded individuals who want to make a positive difference to those who have served and businesses committed to recruiting, developing and retaining service leavers and veterans.
The charity is led by Chief Executive Officer Major (Retired) Gerry Hill MBE QGM + Bar who has first-hand experience of the value of appropriate welfare support for the men and women of our Armed Forces and the problems they encounter on leaving the services.
